Schuylkill fair opens Monday with Pulling Day
The Schuylkill County Fair opens Monday and runs through Aug. 2 at the Schuylkill County Fairgrounds in Summit Station.
The theme is “Cultivating the Future Generations,” and a host of activities will be held each day.
There will be food, vendors, programs, exhibits and amusement rides.
Monday
On Monday, gates open at 4 p.m. for Pulling Day. The Queen and Princess contest will begin at 4 p.m. from the main stage. A tractor parade will get underway at 4:30 p.m.
Fair royalty will be crowned at 6 p.m., and Porcupine Pat will present “Ways of Wildlife” at 6 p.m.
Pull off Productions will have a pull at 7 p.m., and an equine demonstration occurs at the same time.
At 7 and 9 p.m., Looker and the Knockout Horns perform from the main stage.
Tuesday
Kids Day is Tuesday, with gates opening at 11 a.m. Lucky horseshoe crafts happen all day at the horse barn, and a Touch-A-Truck will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Kids’ contests will be held every half-hour beginning at noon.
The Schuylkill Ballet Theater performs at 1 p.m., and a tractor parade follows at 1:30 p.m. An equine demonstration will be held at 3 p.m. and a BAAAD Girls Sheep-to-Shawl demonstration will be held from 5-8 p.m.
A Rabbit Hopping Contest is at 5 p.m., and from 5-7 p.m. Cowboy/Cowgirl mini pictures will be taken.
A pedal tractor pull is at 5:30 p.m., followed by “Underdogs: Importance of Disliked Critters” at 6 p.m. Atlantic Pro Pulling is at 7 p.m., and Zenith will perform classic rock at 7 and 9 p.m.
Wednesday
July 30 is Nana Schaffer Day and gates will open at 4 p.m. A tractor parade is at 4:30 p.m., and a celebrity tractor pull is at 5:30 p.m.
Invasive plants with Kyle Schutt and a Livestock Skill-A-Thon will be held at 6 p.m. At 7 p.m., there will be farm stock pulls, along with an equine demonstration.
Jack and Davis Reed, grandsons of the Statler Brothers, will perform gospel music at 7 and 9 p.m.
Thursday
Friends of the Fair and Livestock Day will be held July 31, and gates open at 11 a.m. Amusement rides open at 4 p.m., when livestock sale buyers check in. At 4:30 p.m., there will be a tractor parade. At 5 p.m., there will be 4-H/FFA livestock auction awards, as well as Bob and Brian’s Custom Boards.
The Menagerie in Motion/Possum Patty Hinkel is at 6 p.m., as is the cornhole tournament.
An equine demonstration gets underway at 7 p.m. Jimmy Holmes with the Spin-Outs will perform an Elvis Tribute at 7 and 9 p.m.
Friday
Country Day is Aug. 1, and gates will open at 4 p.m. An animal obstacle course will be held at 3 p.m., and lucky horseshoe crafts will be from 3-6 p.m.
The tractor parade is at 4:30 p.m., followed by Cowboy/Cowgirl mini-pictures from 5-6:30 p.m. An equine demonstration is at 5:30 p.m. and the Red Creek Wildlife Center will have a program at 6 p.m.
A threshing demonstration will also be held at 6 p.m. A kids and adult hay bale toss is at 7 p.m., and DJ Chicken Nugget will lead line dancing at 7 p.m.
Alyssa and Wayne Brewer will perform a tribute to George Jones and Tammy Wynette at 7 and 9 p.m.
Saturday
Schuylkill County Day gets underway on Aug. 2, and gates open at 11 a.m.
The 4-H/FFA Master Showman Contest is at 11 a.m., and a tractor parade takes off at 1:30 p.m. Cowboy/Cowgirl mini pictures are from 2-4 p.m., and livestock judging is at 3 p.m.
A princess parade is at 4 p.m., and a kiddie parade follows at 5 p.m. Keystone Herpetological Institute will have a program at 6 p.m., and an equine demonstration is at 7 p.m.
DJ Chicken Nugget returns for line dancing at 7 p.m. and Classic Skynyard Live performs at 7 and 9 p.m.
Cleanup Day is Aug. 3.
