Turnpike crashes/incidents
State police at the Pocono barracks reported the following crashes and incidents that occurred on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike:
• Angelica M. Stern, 41, of Center Valley, had suspected minor injuries after a two-vehicle crash at 8:24 a.m. July 17 at the Route 209 off ramp of the turnpike in Franklin Township.
Police said she was transported by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Association to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township.
They said the crash occurred when Emily K. Dietrich Witmer, 50, of Kutztown, was driving a 2025 Toyota RAV4 that struck the rear of a 2010 Acura operated by Stern as both vehicles were waiting to merge onto Route 209.
Dietrich Witmer was uninjured in the crash.
• Elian Amaguaya, 25, of Upper Darby, was charged with theft of services after police made a traffic stop for a registration violation at 1:30 p.m. July 20.
He was stopped in a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe at mile marker 76 in Franklin Township, after which police determined the vehicle had a fraudulent registration plate on it.
The victim of the case is Eisenhauer’s Harley-Davidson of Mansfield.
• Sherman M. Wilkins, 54, of Philadelphia, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 4:15 p.m. July 14 at mile marker 90 in Kidder Township.
Police said he was driving a 2017 BMW southbound when it began to fishtail due to sudden heavy rain, veered across the right lane into an embankment and struck trees.
• No one was injured in a crash at 6:30 p.m. July 14 at mile marker 83.7 in Penn Forest Township.
Police said the crash occurred as Ronald Bojorge Gonzalez, 42, of Norristown, was driving a 2012 Suzuki Kizashi south when it began to fishtail, veered across the right lane onto the right shoulder, hit a guide rail and then rolled onto its roof.
• A 1975 Ferrari became engulfed in flames when it was being driven by a man at 7:30 p.m. July 17.
Police said William Kloetzer, 53, of Clarks Summit, was northbound in the area of mile marker 82.8 in Penn Forest Township when be began to smell gasoline. Upon looking back, he saw flames coming from the car. He pulled onto the right shoulder of the road and exited the vehicle.
Police said a local fire department had to extinguish the fire.
• Police stopped a 1994 Chevrolet Caprice at 12:19 p.m. July 18 at mile marker 68.1 in Washington Township and determined it had fraudulent annual and inspection stickers on it.
They said the operator was not cited since he was not the owner of the vehicle.
Victims of the incident are Zelinski’s Auto and Notary, Corry, and U.S. Trans Enterprises, Philadelphia.
