Man fails to register for Megan’s Law
A Slatington man has been charged with failing to register for Megan’s Law.
According to the affidavit filed by Slatington Police Department in the case against Brian Sauerwine:
On June 23, the Slatington Police Department received an investigation request from the Pennsylvania State Police Megan’s Law division regarding the defendant,.
In this request, Megan’s Law stated that Sauerwine failed to appear during his verification window of June 8 to 17.
Police proceeded to Sauerwine’s home on June 24 in an attempt to let him know that he missed his verification window and he needed to register with Megan’s Law, however they did not make contact with him at that time.
Officers spoke with Sauerwine’s landlord, who stated he had not seen Sauerwine at the residence in about three weeks, and escorted officers into the residence where it appeared to be vacant.
The landlord stated that while speaking with Sauerwine before his arrest on June 13, Sauerwine stated that he needed to register with Megan’s Law and was aware of the verification window.
Police then contacted Megan’s Law on June 26 to confirm that Sauerwine still did not registers.
On June 26, officers proceeded to an area in the 200 block of Center Street, as this is where Sauerwine has been known to visit and/or stay at.
The occupant of the address advised that Sauerwine was not present.
Later that day, Lehigh Valley Hospital was contacted in an attempt to see if Sauerwine was at one of their campus’ receiving treatment.
Sauerwine was incarcerated at Lehigh County Jail from June 13 to 25.
An employee from Lehigh Valley — Cedar Crest, noted that Sauerwine was discharged at 6:17 a.m. on June 26.
On July 2, officers proceeded to the 800 block of Main Street to again make contact with Sauerwine, but were unsuccessful in doing so.
Officers then contacted St. Luke’s Hospital to see if Sauerwine was now at one of their campuses, but he was not.
Officers found that Allentown Police Department did have contact with Sauerwine on June 30, which did not result in Allentown Police Department taking Sauerwine into custody at that time.
Sauerwine is required under Megan’s Law to register his residence for life.
As of July 2, Sauerwine still had not reported to a Pennsylvania State Police barracks to verify his current address.
