State police at Fern Ridge - crashes

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks reported the following crashes:

• No one was injured in a three-vehicle crash at 4:43 p.m. June 29 on Interstate 80 in Kidder Township.

Police said the crash occurred as Widmayer Gene, 32, of Westbury, New York, was driving a 2024 Peterbilt westbound when he couldn’t stop the rig in time to avoid striking two vehicle that had stopped next to each other because of a bear directly in front of them.

The rig struck a 2019 Toyota RAV4 driven by Jimmy E. Mercedes, 42, of Plains, and a 2012 Nissan Sentra operated by Brennan J. Flory, 27, of Cleveland, Ohio, police said.

Police said the rig then continued straight, traveling off the left side of the road and hitting a tree.

All three vehicles had disabling damage and required towing, police said.

Gene was cited after the crash, according to police.

• William O. Hilliard, 31, of Northampton, was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 6:03 p.m. June 21 at the intersection of Route 209 and Scott Street in Chestnuthill Township.

Police said he was transported by personnel from the Lehigh Valley Health Network EMS corps to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono, East Stroudsburg. They said the severity of his injuries is unknown.

Police said the crash occurred when he was driving a 2012 Harley-Davidson southbound when it struck the rear of a 2024 Ford Mustang driven by Angel G. Santa, 20, of Saylorsburg, after the latter slowed down in anticipation of turning onto Scott Street.

They said Hilliard was thrown off the motorcycle and landed on a grass embankment.

Police said both vehicles had minor damage.

Santa was uninjured in the crash.

• Xin Xin, 24, of Stroudsburg, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 10:52 a.m. June 18 on Cays Road in Jackson Township.

Police said she was driving a 2023 Rivian R1S southbound when it struck a tree and went down a small embankment.

The vehicle was towed from the scene, police said.
