VALOR hosts ‘Walk-in Wednesdays’

VALOR house for veterans is offering a monthly “Walk-in Wednesdays” where the organization provide an array of needed items to veterans at no cost.

VALOR, which stands for Veterans Assisted Living Out Reach, has items such as food, clothing and furniture. There is a small food pantry on-site, as well as a larger one slightly down the road on the Trexler property. All items are from donations.

Facilities manager Robert Ferreira said, “It’s important that the veterans feel safe and comfortable and don’t feel judged. We try to facilitate a welcome environment. The vets can come in and have coffee and talk to the guys in the house.”

Karen Motley, whose husband, Ronald, was in the Army and Navy for 11 years, attends every month.

“I honor the veterans. My heart goes out to them. We would be homeless if not for VALOR. We come every month just to say hi. Chris (Mora) brought us bookshelves and recliners and he takes us to the food pantry,” Motley said.

As the manager of the household goods, Mora is responsible for picking up donated furniture items and delivering them to veterans in need. He said that during the holidays, the food pantry delivers approximately 600 meals.

VALOR is capable of housing 13 veterans and currently has two rooms available.

“Veterans Unstoppable” is a program that helps veterans with their transition to civilian life, including finding housing and employment, and dealing with the effects of military service.

Any veteran interested in VALOR house is welcome to come to Walk-in Wednesdays are held the third Wednesday of the month at 1130 Scenic Drive, Kunkletown.
