Lehigh Twp. grants extensions
Lehigh Township supervisors approved several time extensions for land development plans and addressed a range of township matters last week.
The board granted the following plan extension requests:
• Melostone Estates: Extension for plan approval to Jan. 31, 2026.
• Quince Road Subdivision: Extension to Sept. 30.
• 3641 Magnolia Drive (Billy Carter Minor Subdivision): Extension to Oct. 31.
• M&U International Sedler Design & Redevelopment: Extension for plan recording to Sept. 30.
• Timothy Pitts Land Development: Extension for plan recording to Oct. 31.
• Lehigh Valley Resort & Spa: Extension for plan recording to Aug. 26, 2026.
• Recreation Report Recreation Committee Chair Sandy Hopkins said new tennis courts at Bryfogle Park are estimated to cost about $118,000.
She suggested the township promote a “tree adoption” program in the September newsletter for the holiday tree lighting.
“Delps Park needs some kind of mats for the muddy part of the dog area,” Hopkins added.
Chairman Mike Jones offered a possible resource: “Palmerton has 50 tree stands at $14 a piece that they do not need because they are maxed out of trees they can have. You may want to look into it.”
Hopkins also said the committee is researching a digital sign for Berlinsville and plans to apply for a grant to hire a recreation consultant.
Jones asked Public Works Director Frank Zamadics to get pricing for removing three dead trees near the pavilions at Indian Trail Park and for repairing a pavilion roof and soffit. “I got reports that birds are making a real mess when someone has a pavilion rented,” he said.
Zamadics noted that roadside mowing has begun throughout the township.
Other business
• Officer Collin Haupt be promoted to full-time duty and Officer Richard Houser’s probation was extended by six months.
• Quarter Midget Racing Lease Renewal: After a heated debate, the board renewed the Blue Mountain Drive Quarter Midget Racing lease for 10 years, through May 27, 2035, to include fire tax.
Supervisor Cindy Miller initially opposed the length, suggesting a shorter term. “We should make the lease for three years because we are planning to get a recreation consultant. They may have ideas about that area. It’s costing the borough money.”
Emilio Denisi, vice president of the Quarter Midget club, countered, “We have been there for almost 40 years.” Miller raised concerns about limited township youth participation.
Denisi responded, “We are a nonprofit who give back to Lehigh Township. We give the fire department a donation of $5,000, EMS, fundraising for kids with cancer. We donate all our race earnings to events being held in the township.”
Miller said, “I was not aware of this.”
The lease was ultimately approved unanimously.
• Repository properties: The board approved the sale of two repository properties — H2SW1 5 3 on Riverview Drive and J2 7 5A on Alder Drive.
• Supervisors voted to remove the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission from residential and commercial inspections, citing too many errors.
• Manager Alice Rehrig said the township received two applications. “Do you want more?” she asked. The board requested she continue advertising the position. • Yard Waste Cards: Rehrig reminded residents that the $10 gate card for yard waste is a one-time fee but must be repurchased if lost.
