June 12, 1999 — Northern Lehigh holds its first-ever “Running of the Dawgs” event, which includes a 5K run/walk and also a one mile run/walk. More than 150 runners and walkers participate in the race, which benefits the Northern Lehigh Educational Foundation. Jeff Crahalta is the overall winner in a time of 16:27.4 while Bulldog graduate Bob Chandler places second in 16:34.2. Another Nolehi product, student Matt Oertner, earns a fifth-place finish with a time of 18:31.1. Michelle Wolyniec of Bloomsburg University captures the women’s overall crown with a time of 19:07.6.
