June 9, 1944 — An outstanding all-around effort by Joe “Flatty” Klepic propels Coaldale to a 4-0 Panther Valley League victory over Mauch Chunk. Klepic pitches a five-hit shutout and strikes out nine in his nine innings of work. He also helps his own cause, finishing 4-for-4 at the plate and scoring a run. The winners, coached by Pete Flyzik, also receive three hits and two runs from Bitsko while Popik adds a pair of hits. Snyder chips in with a hit and a run. For Mauch Chunk, Eberts collects a pair of hits.
