The Summer Better Lives Always Start Today program gets underway again this year at the South Ward Playground, Oak and Penn streets, in Tamaqua.

Sponsored by the Schuylkill County Mental Health/Development Services and Drug and Alcohol Program and Schuylkill Community Action, the free program offers fun and educational activities for children in kindergarten to sixth grades.

The program is hosted by experienced staff and includes healthy snacks and lunch. There will be special guest workshops and free BLAST gear such as T-shirts, sunglasses and bags.

Activities include nature exploration, arts and crafts, discovery projects, team sports and games, mindfulness and stress management and an ice cream party.

The program will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays between June 17 and Aug. 1 at the South Ward. It will also be held two days each week between June 17 and Aug. 14 at sites in Frackville, Mahanoy City and Pottsville.
