This weekend we’ll observe Memorial Day. It is that: an observance.
It’s a day to remember the many who served our country but never came home to their families. Some are buried far away, overseas, in fact. Others rest closer to home in national or local or family cemeteries.
Wherever they rest, we cannot ever forget their sacrifices and bravery. We must show our gratitude, even if it’s something simple like flying your flag at your home or attending a parade or a Memorial service.
As a teen, I traveled locally during this weekend, to sound taps. I played in church, town and post parade memorial services. That experience cemented our lost servicemen and women into a place on my heart nobody else has. They are the reason we have our freedom.
Make no mistake and make time to pay your respect this Memorial by visiting a local memorial to the Fallen or stopping by a cemetery to pray for those lost fighting in wars and battles to preserve our freedom. Please remember them all this Memorial Day and for all of those to come.
Following is a link to a review of a book written by our cousin Joey Mike (his growing up name). We lost Joe’s son, Andrew (AJ) during the Iraq War. Those of us who know AJ know he did what he was happy and proud doing, serving in the US Army. We remember him and all others our country has lost these almost 250 years of our history. God bless America.
