Man gets state prison for threats
A Palmerton man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to making terroristic threats in a case involving firearms and alleged methamphetamine possession, according to Carbon County Court records.
Jesus Miguel Bracero, 29, was sentenced to six months to two years in state prison on Thursday by President Judge Roger Nanovic after entering a negotiated guilty plea to one count of terroristic threats with intent to terrorize another, a first-degree misdemeanor.
Three additional charges — a second count of terroristic threats, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person — were dismissed as part of the plea agreement, according to court documents.
Bracero also pleaded guilty to fleeing police and receiving stolen property Thursday in separate cases.
The case originated from incidents that occurred in July 2023 in Bowmanstown Borough. According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Trooper Nicolas De La Iglesia of the Pennsylvania State Police at Lehighton, a woman reported on July 28, 2023, that she had been involved in a domestic dispute with Bracero at a residence in the 700 block of Fireline Road.
The woman told police that Bracero “normally carries a pistol, and also keeps an AR-style rifle on top of a hutch in the dining room,” according to the affidavit. She further reported that “Bracero behaves erratically and routinely destroys locked doors in the home, and that on July 27, he threatened to kill her.”
The criminal complaint details that Bracero reportedly spent the night in the garage and would not allow the woman to enter. She told police “he has a lot of visitors at the garage, and suspects he is involved in criminal activities with narcotics,” the affidavit states.
In a separate incident detailed in the court documents, the woman’s father contacted state police and reported that Bracero “had just pulled a shotgun on him when he went to the residence to check on the welfare of the family and his grandson.” The father said Bracero was “pointing a shotgun at him and said, ‘I am going to kill you (expletive)!’ ” according to the affidavit.
Trooper De La Iglesia noted in the court filing that “because of previous incidents, Bracero is prohibited from possessing firearms.”
During the investigation, police found ammunition “throughout multiple rooms in his primary residence,” along with several firearms, including “a Taurus Ultralite Model 85, .38spi, revolver which was fully loaded, along with two loaded speed loaders” in a locked safe in the master bedroom, and “a loaded Smith and Wesson Airweight ... in clothing thrown on the roof,” according to the affidavit.
The documents also reveal that authorities discovered “a 12g shotgun with a silencer, two suspected explosive devices and a container of suspected flash powder,” as well as “two white/brown crystalline rock substances that were suspected of being methamphetamines, which had a weight of about 25 grams.”
According to the affidavit, “Bracero admitted to being a user of methamphetamines and having methamphetamines in the workbench in his garage.”
The court also ordered several additional conditions Thursday as part of his sentence, including submitting to a blood sample at the Carbon County Correctional Facility; undergoing a comprehensive drug and alcohol evaluation; and following all recommended treatment, relinquishing all firearms under his possession or control and forfeiture of all guns he owned.
