Police: JT man tried to break into home
A Jim Thorpe man is facing multiple charges after police said he tried to break into a Penn Forest Township home with a crowbar following a dispute with his girlfriend.
According to state police at the Lehighton barracks, 51-year-old Keith Formisano went to a home on the 500 block of Behrens Road around 3:10 p.m. on April 19.
A man at the home said Formisano knocked on the door several times, but he did not answer. Formisano then left in a Ford F-150 pickup, which police later noted had an expired registration and inspection sticker.
His driver’s license is also suspended.
About 10 minutes later, Formisano returned with a crowbar and tried to force his way into the home.
The resident said he saw damage to the area around the doorknob. When he opened the door to confront Formisano, Formisano asked where “she” was — referring to the woman who lives there.
The man told Formisano she wasn’t home and asked him to leave. Formisano blocked the door with his foot and punched it before the man was able to shut it.
Fearing for his safety, the man grabbed a kitchen knife and stepped outside, warning Formisano to leave. Formisano allegedly threatened the woman and got back into his truck.
As he backed down the driveway, Formisano reportedly turned the wheel toward the man as if trying to hit him. He then drove away, knocking over the mailbox in the process. Police later spoke with the woman, who said she and Formisano had been in a relationship since 2023 but had argued the night before.
She said she planned to break up with him due to past threats and had intentionally not told him where she was that day for her own safety.
She said she hid in a bedroom during the incident and did not give Formisano permission to be at her home.
Earlier that day, she had reported to police that Formisano had returned to her home uninvited, claiming he was looking for their dog.
Formisano faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault, criminal trespass, terroristic threats, harassment, and criminal mischief, along with several traffic violations.
He was taken to the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $75,000 bail, which was posted on April 21. A preliminary hearing originally scheduled for Wednesday before District Judge Eric M. Schrantz has been postponed to June 11.
