Scouts build driers for firefighter gear

Boy Scout Troop 58 of Slatington has been working on firefighter gear driers at Emerald Fire Company for an Eagle Scout project.

Scouts are building four of the units.

Each unit takes about four hours to complete. Each pipe holds an item of the bunker gear. The gear is died in record time after it is hooked up to the air.

It is recommended that firefighters wash their gear after each call. The devices will save time and help firefighters be ready to answer the next call.

Chief Tito Burgos of Emerald Fire Company said, “We will keep two of the units, give the two remaining units to Friedens Fire Company and Slatedale Fire Company.”

Scout Nathaniel Kuhns, said, “We are happy to be helping our community, grateful for the opportunity.”

The Scouts thanked Lehigh Industrial Supply for donating all the PVC pipe, fittings, primer and glue, and Slatington Lions Club, Beacon Building Products and D’Sopranos of Walnutport for their support.
