Warrants issued in Monroe murder Long Pond short-term rental incident linked to Venezuelan gang
Arrest warrants have been issued for three men involved in a murder and two attempted murders in Long Pond earlier this year.
Police have tied the incident to a Venezuelan gang, known as Tren de Argua.
According to an affidavit by Pocono Mountain Regional Police detectives Erika Burk and Kyle VanNote, the case centers on Oscar Quilarque Sosa. On Jan. 12, at 5:10 p.m., Stroud Area Regional Police alerted Pocono Mountain officers that two gunshot victims had arrived at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bartonsville.
The shooting occurred at a short-term rental on Clover Road, where officers later found the home abandoned, with blood near the entrance. Inside, they discovered Lionardo Hernandez-Zarata, dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators learned the home was rented for a multiday party celebrating Hernandez-Zarata’s birthday.
Evidence showed he was shot about eight times with three different calibers. Officers also found signs of narcotics trafficking, including tusi (pink cocaine).
Witnesses reported that an argument broke out between Hernandez-Zarata, Oscar Quilarque Sosa, 31, and Oswaldo Solorzano-Sosa, 37, leading to gunfire.
The FBI later informed police that Sosa was a suspect in its separate investigation.
He was taken into federal custody in New York City on Jan. 13, where Pocono Mountain detectives interviewed him.
Further evidence linked Sosa to the shooting, including forensic findings of defensive wounds. Investigators also identified Oswaldo Sosa and Josthin Landaeta Perez, 24, as accomplices. Oswaldo and Oscar are brothers, and their third brother, Jesus Oliveros Sosa, had been hired as the party’s DJ. Jesus Oliveros Sosa claimed Hernandez-Zarata failed to pay him, prompting him to call his brothers.
A recovered video showed four individuals brandishing handguns, referencing Tren de Aragua, a drug cartel linked to tusi trafficking. On Jan. 31, during an FBI search of Oscar Sosa’s vehicle, police found three firearms matching those used in the crime, including a modified Glock with an automatic switch.
On March 7, criminal complaints were filed against Oscar Sosa, Oswaldo Solorzano-Sosa and Josthin Perez for homicide and attempted homicide. Oscar Sosa and Josthin Perez remain in federal custody in New York on unrelated charges. Oswaldo Sosa is still at large.
Arrest warrants have been issued for all three.
