Diane Jean McFadden, 60, of the 100 block of Coal Street in Nesquehoning, is facing charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance and careless driving as a result of a vehicular crash at 10:15 p.m. April 7 along Route 209 in the area of Knepper’s Trailer Court in Summit Hill.

Police said they were summoned there for a report of a silver sedan having struck the guiderail and then leaving the scene, traveling north on Route 209. Police said the vehicle, a 2000 Toyota Echo, was located in the parking lot of Redner’s grocery store, Nesquehoning, where McFadden admitted to them she was driving the vehicle that struck the rails while she was driving without the vehicle’s headlights being turned on. Police said the woman said she was dizzy. She was disoriented, had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes, and said she had taken Xanax and sleeping pills around 5 p.m.

Police said McFadden failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. She consented to a blood test that was done at the St. Luke’s Miners Memorial Hospital in Coaldale. The results alprazolam in her system.
