Man pleads guilty in Banks Twp. stabbing
A Beaver Meadows man accused of stabbing a man in the leg in November 2023 pleaded guilty Tuesday to aggravated assault, attempt to cause bodily injury with a deadly weapon.
Nyshere Yaw Khareedeh Dobson, 25, was sentenced by Carbon County Common Pleas Judge Joseph Matika to between 21 months and 5 years in prison for the second-degree felony.
According to court papers, state police at Hazleton responded to a home on Berwick Street, Banks Township, for a reported stabbing on Nov. 20, 2023.
Troopers found a 41-year-old man lying on the front porch in a large pool of blood and bleeding profusely from his leg. They placed a tourniquet on the man’s leg and he was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton, and then flown to LVH-Cedar Crest, court papers said.
Dobson, the suspect, was found hiding in woody brush in the backyard of the home and police took him into custody, court papers said. Having been released from prison earlier that day, he went to the Berwick Street home because an acquaintance/girlfriend was temporarily staying there, police said.
An argument ensued between Dobson and the victim inside the home, and Dobson stabbed him in the leg with a knife, court papers said. Dobson then fled.
One witness told police that Dobson was at his Berwick Street home at 8 p.m. and was intoxicated.
Dobson told the witness about having a “beef” with the victim, and said he was going to kill him, court papers said.
Both men then went to the neighboring home in the row home complex where the victim lived. A witness told police Dobson appeared agitated, and he saw him outside on the street urinating and yelling, court papers said.
He told police he heard Dobson yell, “I’m going to kill him.”
Dobson went to the victim’s home, banged on the door and kicked it in as a resident opened it, police said.
The witness told troopers that Dobson stumbled inside the home, went to the kitchen, where he could hear Dobson going through drawers.
He said he then saw the victim tell Dobson to get out of the house, and Dobson said something to the victim about him hurting his son and stabbed him in the leg, court papers said.
After seeing a large amount of blood coming from the victim’s leg wound, the witness told police, he retrieved a firearm and drew it on Dobson, who fled the home, according to court papers.
Dobson was also ordered Tuesday to undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow all treatment recommended, and complete 100 hours of community service.
All other charges against Dobson, including attempted criminal homicide, were dropped as part of the plea agreement.
