Coaldale councilwoman resigns
Yvonne Stoffey stepped down as a member of the Coaldale Borough Council.
Her resignation was accepted at the end of Tuesday’s council meeting.
While Stoffey was at the meeting, her resignation letter was read by borough secretary Beth Martinico.
“It has been an honor and pleasure serving the residents of Coaldale the past 6-plus years,” Stoffey wrote. “Although I will no longer be a member of council, I will continue to support my town by continuing to be actively involved in the Coaldale Community Crime Watch, Coaldale VFW Auxiliary, Coaldale American Legion Auxiliary, and my newest commitment to represent Coaldale in the Panther Valley Blueprint Communities team.”
Stoffey was reelected to council during November’s general election.
“I want to thank the residents who have supported and trusted me throughout the years as a councilwoman,” she wrote in her letter.
Stoffey noted that she will continue to advocate for Coaldale and support local events and volunteer activities as much as possible.
“I have been a resident of Coaldale my entire life and know what Coaldale was, is, and continues to grow toward again,” she wrote.
Her resignation was accepted unanimously, however, council members said they didn’t want to see her go.
“I oppose but I am in favor of it because that is what you want,” council President Claire Remington said.
Council voted to advertise for a replacement for Stoffey. There are three years left in her term.
A replacement must be found within 45 days.
