3 displaced from home in Palmerton fire

Three people were displaced from their home following a fire Tuesday morning in Palmerton.

Borough fire Chief Jason Behler said firefighters were dispatched at 10 a.m. to a single home at 252 Lafayette Ave.

“There was smoke coming from the second floor front of the building, back of the building, also what would be the right side,” Behler said. “There was no visible flame from the outside, just smoke.”

Behler said three people who lived in the home were all home at the time, though no one was injured.

He said the American Red Cross arrived on scene, and noted that while the house is salvageable, the occupants won’t be able to stay at their home until its repaired.

“Phenomenal response from the departments that came, they made a real aggressive attack on the fire; that’s what really led to saving this building,” said Behler, who added it was held to a room and contents. “Outside of the room that was burning, smoke and heat damage, mostly all the damage was contained to one room from the fire itself.

“The daytime response, with people having jobs, it was phenomenal with the first responders who came out and helped us today.”

Behler said also assisting at the scene were the Aquashicola Fire Department, Bowmanstown Fire Department, Lehighton Fire Department, Palmerton Ambulance, Lehighton Ambulance, Lehighton Ambulance Rehab, Diamond Fire Company of Walnutport RIT Team, and Leigh Township Fire Company RIT Team.
