Tamaqua man charged with indecent assault of girl, 5

Tamaqua police charged Christopher Miano-Wilburn, 32, of Tamaqua, with inappropriately touching a 5-year-old girl on Dec. 20.

According to police, officers were called to St. Luke’s Miners campus in Coaldale on Dec. 21 for a sexual assault case involving a 5-year-old girl. Police spoke to the girl’s mother who said her daughter told her husband that Miano-Wilburn had touched her. The mother then asked the girl if anything had happened and she related the same story.

According to police, the girl said it happened on the morning of Dec. 20, when Miano-Wilburn was watching her. The mother said she had to take her other children to a doctor’s appointment and left the girl alone with Miano-Wilburn for about 35 minutes until she could get her school bus to kindergarten.

The mother said the girl appeared “normal” when she returned home. It wasn’t until about 10 p.m. that she told the woman’s husband about the incident. The mother said she did not complain of pain but told the doctor that it hurt.

Police said a forensic interview was done Jan. 5 in Allentown, and the girl immediately said that someone put their hands into her pants and touched her. She said she was sitting on the couch watching television and her parents were outside.

Police said the Pennsylvania State Police Crime lab sent a report in March that shows DNA found in the victim’s underwear could not be ruled out as that of Miano-Wilburn.

Miano-Wilburn had an extradition hearing on July 25 in Ohio. He waived the extradition and agreed to return to Tamaqua. Police traveled to Ohio Sunday to transport Miano-Wilburn.

He was charged with aggravated assault of a child, aggravated indecent assault without consent, aggravated indecent assault of someone less than 13 years old, indecent assault of a person less than 13 years old and corruption of minors.

Miano-Wilburn was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge James Reiley, Pottsville, and committed to Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of $75,000 cash bail.
