Schuylkill Township discusses road projects

Porter Street in Tuscarora will be paved this year.

The Schuylkill Township Supervisors are advertising for bids to pave the street, after Constance Hacker, who lives on the street, said the street in front of her home is dusty since it was torn up to install new utilities and never repaved, and is a hazard to her son, who has special needs.

The supervisors are going to otherwise undertake a $61,275 road program that includes work on Firehouse Road, $36,375; Coal Street, from Broad to Seneca Street, $7,800; Locust Street, from Wyoming to Locust Street, $10,600, and Forest Lane, from Sanderson Street to Sunny Drive, $6,500.

The supervisors are also advertising for bids to take down two felled trees.

One tree, at 134 School St. in Mary D, has to be taken down. The other tree came down into a home on Mine Street in Brockton, and the supervisors are advertising for bids to take the remainder of the tree that wasn’t inside the house.

The township is still looking for a part-time police officer. The supervisors discussed, but took no action, to offer a sign-on bonus or a raise in pay for officers as an incentive. They did vote to sent Officer Doug Litwhiler for training to use a taser device.

The supervisors canceled their Aug. 5 meeting, Their next meeting will be Wednesday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. at the township building.
