Lansford Borough Council is seeking nearly $700,000 in grant funding to install curbing and pave two streets, one along the No. 9 Coal Mine and Museum.
Council on Tuesday approved a resolution to apply for a state Multimodal Transportation Fund Grant for $695,750 in funding to pave portions of Dock and Cortright streets.
The proposed project includes installing curbing and paving Cortright Street from Patterson Street to Dock Street, and to pave Dock Street from Cortright Street to Route 209, along the No. 9 mine site.
The No. 9 mine is in the midst of a $4 million historic preservation and mine reclamation project. The Panther Creek Valley Foundation broke ground for a building to house two giant mine ventilation fans and stationary engine that once powered them last year.
Borough council in May approved dedicating its Community Development Block Grant funds for 2024 to install curbing and pave another portion of Cortright Street, between Abbot and West Water streets.
The borough sent surveys to residents on July 15 to obtain demographic information needed to secure the CDBG funds. The surveys must be returned to borough office by Aug. 2.
