Nesquehoning sending out lead survey

Nesquehoning residents will soon be receiving a survey to help the borough water authority identify the types of water service lines currently running to each residence.

On Wednesday, the borough authority announced that all property owners will receive a lead and copper survey as part of a state mandate.

“The purpose of this survey is to identify any lead in drinking water lines,” the authority posted on its Facebook account.

Suzanne Smith of the water authority said Wednesday that all surveys should be mailed out by the end of the week and should be returned to the borough office or emailed to ARRO Consulting by no later than Sept. 30.

According to the letter residents will be receiving, this survey will help determine the lines coming from the water main to the residence and will help comply with the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions, which were established by the state in 2021 as a way to address lead contamination in water.

The borough authority notes that the water service line into your home is typically found in the basement or through the foundation wall closest to the street.

The survey asks that you look at this pipe and circle the type, whether it be galvanized, copper, plastic or lead.

The letter provides residents with a QR code that can be scanned for an online survey or the bottom of the letter can be used as a paper copy of the survey.

For any questions or if you need help identifying the type of pipe, contact Andrew Tuleya at Andrew.Tuleya@arroconsulting.com or Bethany Stoll at bethany.stoll@arroconsulting.com or by phone at 301-791-1100.

Smith said that the borough authority must comply with the state request by Oct. 16.
