A Carbon County veteran was honored at Wednesday’s Iron Pigs game against the Buffalo Bison at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown.
David Guth Jr. of Palmerton received four tickets to attend the game and was presented a custom Iron Pigs Jersey by volunteers from AARP, who sponsor the “Salute to Service” program at home games.
Guth served in the 101st Airborne Division, 3/187th Battalion in the U.S. Army during Desert Storm and the Gulf Wars. He served in Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
Guth entered the Army after graduating in 1988 from Liberty High School and Bethlehem Area VoTech. Guth said he wanted to “make sure to start my life on a good path, and I wasn’t interested in going to college.” Guth, who held auto mechanics certifications, felt he could “use what I learned at Tech in the Army.”
Guth, a Phillies fan, enjoyed watching the Iron Pigs win 12-5 against the Bison and says, “it’s really cool that they do this. I hope more veterans learn about the program and apply for it.”
