Weatherly discusses equipment purchase

Weatherly Borough Council on Monday discussed purchasing new office equipment and selling other equipment, including gun holsters and a VASCAR-Plus unit.

Borough Manager Harold Pudliner explained that the borough’s copier, which is the heart of the office operations, needs to be replaced.

“We’ve been informed that the model is now considered obsolete,” he said.

The borough paid a per-copy fee for black-and-white and color copies, and that fee went toward toner and maintenance, Pudliner said.

“Now, they’re telling us that that is not going to be the case, and they’re going to charge us for service work,” he said, adding that there are no guarantees on obtaining parts, either.

Pudliner sought prices on a comparable machine from Topp Copy of Scranton, which the company the borough has been dealing with on the old copier.

A new copier would cost $10,940, he said. Going through either the company or the bank, the borough would be looking at about $1,000 in interest over three years, Pudliner said.

He recommended the purchase and dividing the cost among the borough’s four departments, and council approved the purchase.

Pudliner also mentioned purchasing a large format scanner to convert numerous blueprints that the borough has in storage to electronic documents.

The move would eliminate the need for storage, and the borough wouldn’t have to worry about documents deteriorating.

Council also approved placing a number of items for sale on Municibid, an online auction service for government agencies.

Among the items listed for sale are traffic vests, heaters, circuit breakers, Christmas décor and lanterns, tools, gun holsters and slings, ticket clipboards, a VASCAR Plus traffic control unit and a large amount of VERSA-LOK retaining wall blocks.

Councilman Joe Cyburt thanked council, borough staff, county commissioners and the people of Weatherly for their assistance and generous support of the Weatherly Hillclimb’s 63rd annual spring event held earlier this month.
