Rush Twp. sells land on Claremont Avenue

The Rush Township Board of Supervisors sold a township-owned property at 609 Claremont Ave. in the village of Hometown.

Ankiewicz Enterprises was the only bidder on for the 4.5 acre parcel of land just off of Route 309.

The site sold for $60,000.

Township supervisors said they had planned to use the ground for a proposed organic recycling facility. But readying the uneven lot for that purpose would have been costly, board Vice Chairman Robert Leibensperger said.

Instead, the board purchased land at 54 Progress Ave. in the Tidewood Industrial Park for $160,000.

Leibensperger said plans are to have the organic recycling site readied by 2026.

Also during the meeting, supervisors noted that any resident who wants at least 10 tons of mixed fill should contact the township office with their name and address.

When fill becomes available, it will be delivered.

“That means if we’re doing a project and we need to get rid of material, we could take it to your place,” board Chairman Shawn Gilbert said. “That does not mean that we have the material stored here.”

Leibensperger noted that the fill could be a mix of dirt, rock, shale and asphalt. It will not be separated.

“We won’t spread it and we’re not going into any great detail to get to a certain part of a person’s property,” he said.

Township crews will simply dump the materials on the resident’s property.

The materials typically come from road projects, Leibensperger said.
