Schuylkill Chamber honors woman of year, humanitarian
The Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce honored Maureen Donovan of Lehigh Carbon Community College as Business Woman of the Year during its recent 2024 Awards Breakfast.
The event, held at the Orwigsburg Veterans Community Memorial Hall, celebrated the outstanding contributions of local businesses and individuals.
Donovan is the director of workforce and community services at LCCC. For 16 years, she has connected businesses to training programs and funding. She mentors young professionals, and serves on the boards of St. Luke’s University Health Network and CTC Manufacturing.
The Business Man of the Year went to Steven Field, owner and president of Weiner Iron and Metal near Pottsville. For more than 12 years, he has led the family business, ensuring competitiveness and maintaining a family-friendly workplace. Known for his dedication, he was pivotal in keeping the company operational during the pandemic. Weiner is an active community member, and serves on the boards of M & T Bank, Pottsville Hospital and Schuylkill Country Club.
Dr. Gregory Dobash, St. Luke’s University Health Network, was named Humanitarian of the Year. Dobash joined St. Luke’s in 2012 and has made significant contributions to community welfare, establishing programs like the Rural Medicine Residency Program, the first of its kind in Pennsylvania. Dobash also initiated a street medicine walk-in clinic at Servants to All in Pottsville that has facilitated harm reduction efforts and provided naloxone training.
The Perception Training Center, Pottsville, won Small Business of the Year, and Mountain Valley Golf Course, Barnesville, won For Profit of the Year.
Other winners include Sisters’ Hope Foundation for Hereditary Diffuse Leukoencephalopathy, Nonprofit of the Year; Francesco Mercuri of AdviseMint Financial Partners, Young Professional of the Year; and Alex Chivinski and Jonathan Marsh of The Chopping Block, Pottsville, Entrepreneur of the Year.
