Carbon approves union pact

Carbon County has reached an agreement with its AFSCME Professional union.

On Thursday, the board of commissioners approved a collective bargaining agreement with the union that is in effect from Jan. 1, 2023 through Dec. 31, 2026. It was noted that the agreement incorporates the arbitration award that was acknowledged by the commissioners on Jan. 11.

Eloise Ahner, county administrator, said that the agreement makes changes to the classifications for starting rates, taking into consideration the years of service for employees who are employed in the county.

In addition, those in this union, which covers adult and juvenile probation staff as well as domestic relations staff, will no increase except the change of the rates in 2023; in 2024, employees will see a 3% raise; 2025, 2.5% raise; and 3% in 2026.

Ahner said one big change is to the juvenile probation department, which will now work 37.5 hours a week instead of 35 hours a week.

“It was an arbitration award and mostly took every offer that the county had made,” she said.
