Paving a home base for food trucks

A small tract of land in Mahoning Township will soon serve as a hot spot destination for multiple food trucks.

The 1.1-acre plot, located between Tractor Supply Co. and Times News Media Group along Blakeslee Blvd Drive West, is owned by Brad Christman.

“Just got the driveway occupancy permit,” Christman said Friday afternoon. “Once we have that all finalized and they have the driveway macadamed, we’ll just wait for their sign off.”

Christman said the design is for five food trucks with 25 parking spaces. The grass areas will stay intact as they are to allow for several picnic tables, he said.

So, exactly what products will the food trucks feature?

“We had preliminary discussions with a few people,” Christman said. “We’re just starting to broach that subject.”

Christman, a builder/developer, did add that the food trucks will offer “a variety” of foods.

A Realtor with Gene Durigan Real Estate in Lehighton, Christman said the plot simply came up.

“We had it for sale in the office,” he said. “With the huge wave of influence here in the area, I just wanted to have some property here on (Route) 443.”

Christman, who lives in the Mahoning Valley, said, “Our goal is to capitalize on the millions of people that come to the (Mahoning) Drive-In,” he said. “Plus, the traffic is incredible.”

Christman, who also owns the Blended Bakery building on First Street in Lehighton, said he can foresee the property becoming a popular attraction in the area.

“There’s really no venues for people to have a party, a small gathering,” he said.

Christman said he would like to have it open by June 1.
