Charges pending after ATV rollover

Charges are pending against a group of all-terrain vehicle riders following a crash on Lehigh Anthracite property near Lansford over the weekend.

Summit Hill police said Howard McLaughlin rolled his machine Saturday afternoon on coal company land near Andrewsville.

He was flown to a regional trauma center due to severe head injuries, emergency personnel said. He was not wearing a helmet and speeding, they said.

McLaughlin of Nesquehoning was riding with four other people, and coal company security confiscated their vehicles, as they were trespassing on private property, fire crews said.

Summit Hill Police Chief Todd Woodward said the mining company wanted charges filed, and charges are pending at this time.
