Nelson DeJesus Reyes, 33, Tamaqua, was charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance after he crashed his car at 7:40 p.m. Feb. 20 near the intersection of Pine and Vine streets in Tamaqua.
According to Tamaqua police, DeJesus Reyes was traveling north on Pine Street when his vehicle collided with a steel guard rail. Police said he told them he was not injured.
Officers conducted field sobriety tests and determined that he was under the influence of a controlled substance. DeJesus Reyes told police that he had used suboxone and cannabis. He was taken into custody for suspicion of driving under the influence and consented to a blood test.
Results of the test were received March 6 and show that DeJesus and Reyes had cannabis in his system.
