Polk Township accepts bid to repave recycling center

Polk Township supervisors accepted a bid for paving work at the recycling center during their monthly meeting on Monday.

Northeast Site Contractors had the lowest bid at $56,326. The other bids were substantially higher, with the highest bid being close to $90,000.

Approximately $30,000 of the project will come from grant money. The project must be done before June.

The project includes repaving the entrance, parking lot, and surrounding area and installing drainage, said supervisor Carl Heckman.

Regarding the drainage, township engineer Russell Kresge said, “It’s not cheap but I think it’s worthwhile.”

Township residents who have permits can bring household trash and recycling on Wednesdays or Saturdays.

Supervisors Chairman Brian Ahner wondered if preparations for the project could occur on a Monday and Tuesday and the work be done midweek.

“We do not want to have to close the recycling center to residents on a Saturday and a Wednesday. Maybe just have to shut it on a Wednesday,” he said.

The Solid Waste and Recycling Center is located on Township Road next door to the municipal building.
