Work continues on the two roundabouts on Route 209 in Brodheadsville.
One is in front of the Pleasant Valley High School and the other is at the intersection of routes 209 and 115.
Currently, orange and white-striped traffic cones direct vehicles through the lanes of the circles.
“Not much I can add to that,” said Pleasant Valley Superintendent James Konrad.
From his vantage point, it’s a lot of traffic, Konrad said.
The project is under the direction of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. It began in 2021 and is expected to be completed in November 2024.
According to PennDOT’s website, the project starts on Route 209 at Fawn Valley Drive and goes to about 900 feet past Erin Lane, and on Route 115 from Route 209 to about 800 feet past Countryside Drive.
It also includes the widening and realignment of the intersection of routes 209 and 115 in Chestnuthill Township. The roadway will be widened from two to four lanes around the Pleasant Valley School District campus.
In addition to the construction of the roundabouts, the project also includes a new traffic signal at Route 209 and Pilgrim Way/Pleasant Valley Middle School Drive, pedestrian accommodations and lighting system, and a retaining wall.
The primary contractor for the project is Latona Trucking Inc. of Pittston, and the contract cost is $18,823,325.
