4 fires damaging 13 buildings 'suspicious'

SHENANDOAH (AP) Authorities say four fires that damaged more than a dozen vacant properties in an eastern Pennsylvania city are being investigated as suspicious.

Fire officials in Schuylkill County say the first of the blazes in Shenandoah occurred shortly after midnight Saturday.Over the next five hours, three other fires were reported.Officials said at least 200 firefighters from Schuylkill and Northumberland counties responded to battle the flames.They said a total of 13 buildings were damaged. Fire marshal Rick Examitas said no injuries were reported.Fire officials and Shenandoah police are asking people to be even more vigilant than usual for any suspicious activities.Police are also asking residents to leave front and back porch lights on to deter anyone from starting fires or committing other crimes.
