While the pleasant weather of late might have felt great, some rain is drastically needed.
This is evidenced by what's happening at Beltzville Lake.Water has been withdrawn by the Delaware River Basin Commission to supplement demands downstream. As a result, the Preachers Camp boat launch area has been closed. The Pine Run boat launch is still open, said George Sauls, northern area engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.Sauls said the DRBC owns 70 percent of the water at Beltzville Lake and has ordered the release for flow augmentation. In past droughts, water releases from Beltzville were used to prevent salination in the Camden and Delaware River areas.Sauls said releases were also ordered at the Blue Marsh Lake near Reading.A spokesperson for Beltzville Lake said the facility was heavily used by boaters this past weekend.
