NCC Earns military-friendly ranking

For the third year in a row, Northampton Community College has been named to the Military Friendly Schools list. The list honors the 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace America's military service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.

http://www.militaryfriendlyschools.com, features tools to help military students find school to suit their unique needs and preferences.The 1,871 colleges, universities and trade schools on this year's list exhibit leading practices in the recruitment and retention of students with military experience.Now in its fifth year, the 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools was compiled through a survey of more than 10,000 schools nationwide approved for VA tuition.Each year schools taking the survey are held to a higher standard than the previous year.Northampton has welcomed veterans since the college opened in 1967. Today more than 213 veterans and active service members are taking classes at Northampton's campuses in Bethlehem and Tannersville and online.In addition to having a certifying official who can help veterans access the educational benefits they have earned and apply for state and federal financial aid, the college's support for veterans includes a special orientation program to help them transition to the college environment.The "Band of Brothers," a student-veteran club that focuses on veteran-related issues on campus, is one of the most active student organizations at the college.Detailed information about the college's outreach to veterans can be found at
