Winners announced for LGNC art show
The art show held at the Lehigh Gap Nature Center was juried by Anita Collins and Kay Stauffer. The winners were announced at a reception on Sunday.
Termed a celebration of art in nature, the show drew 30 entries that gave local people a chance to demonstrate their talent."There is so much talent in the area," said Lee Sivak, who learned shortly after her comment that she was selected winner of the People's Choice award.Sivak's painting was of the living roof on the springhouse at the end of the Osprey House. The painting was later donated to Dan Kunkle, director of the Nature Center.Sivak's "Living Roof" and a "Jumping Frog" were running neck and neck till the end, said Collins. The ballot box was stuffed and the show drew people who had never visited the Nature Center.Collins handed Sivak her award, a zucchini, which drew some shocked looks till Collins went on to say there was also a gift certificate to an art store of Sivak's choice.Sivak said she took a photograph of the springhouse and painted it in winter. She had to drive up to the Nature Center several times because the photo did not have the detail she wanted. She just began painting two years ago and works in watercolor. The time had to be squeezed out between baby-sitting her granddaughter.Sivak decided to donate it because she is so inspired and appreciative of the work put into planting the roof. The Nature Center also helped her plan her garden.Sivak is part of the education team at the center and made many friends there after retiring from her teaching job."They do an awesome job," she says of the volunteers.Winners who will receive ribbons were John Balogh with his turned wood "Jumping Frog" and Mary Coover with a porcelain "Frog Pond Mirror."Sivak also received a ribbon.
