An Effort man was shot in the leg during an altercation with a woman that happened during the exchange of custody of a four-year-old girl on Thursday at 4:49 p.m. in Hazle Township.
State police at Hazleton said Joseph Fabio Feliciano, 30, was taken to a hospital for the gunshot wound and later transferred to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Police said the shooting happened in the area of the Turkey Hill Gas Station, 70 Station Circle. Police said Rushetta Natana Wilson, 31, of Mahanoy City, was exchanging custody of their four-year-old daughter with Feliciano. Police said a physical dispute followed and a single shot was fired from a 9 mm pistol, striking Feliciano in the leg.
Police said after being shot, Feliciano left in his vehicle with his daughter in the car and went to the area of East Cranberry Avenue and Fifth Street in West Hazleton. Borough police were on scene and summoned the ambulance personnel for the transport.
Police said charges have not been filed against either party and the investigation is ongoing. They said there is no threat to the public.
