Wawa moves ahead in Rush Twp.

The Rush Township board of supervisors gave its approval to final subdivision and land development plans for a proposed Wawa convenience store.

Developers from Provco Pineville Acquisitions LLC of Villanova plan to build a 55,000 square-foot store at 347 Claremont Ave. (Route 309) in the village of Hometown.

During a meeting Monday, supervisors said that their approval of the plans are contingent upon the developers addressing conditions required by ARRO Engineering, the township engineer.

The approval is also contingent upon the township Planning Commission’s review of the highway occupancy permit, cross easement agreement among three lots at the site, and a stormwater maintenance agreement.

Representatives from Provco were at the meeting and said they plan to address the conditions.

Supervisors stressed the need for an additional point for customers to enter and leave the property - something that was suggested by ARRO.

Without the additional access point, board Vice Chairman Robert Leibensperger said customers might not be able to leave if the main entryway is blocked.

“If your concern is an emergency (situation), we are willing to work with you but don’t know how to make it happen,” an attorney for the developer said.

Provco plans to explore options.

In an unrelated matter, the board accepted the resignation of Deb DelFranco as township secretary/treasurer effective Nov. 2.

Susan Bettis was hired to fill the position at a rate of $23 per hour.

The township office will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of the Thanksgiving.

There will be no trash pickup on Friday; it was moved to Saturday.
