Man charged with arson

An inmate in the Monroe County Correctional Facility has been charged with arson after police said he stole a truck and set it on fire.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Trooper Richard Weinstock of the Pennsylvania State Police, Fern Ridge barracks in the case against Carl Klinger, 47:

At 11:54 a.m. Aug. 3, trooper Robert Russell talked to a man who said he left his residence the night before and the truck, a 2017 gray F350, was parked by his garage. That morning it was missing.

He said he left the key in the cup holder with the doors unlocked.

At 8:23 a.m. Aug. 4, troopers were dispatched to Cameron Drive, Chestnuthill Township, for a pickup fully engulfed in flames and confirmed it was the stolen truck. The vehicle was towed to Jimmy’s Auto Service.

On Sept. 29, a woman contacted PSP Fern Ridge and said Klinger stole the truck, and had brought it to her residence.

The woman said Klinger had the truck for two days.

The woman said that Klinger had lit the truck on fire in order to make sure that law enforcement could not obtain his fingerprints from the vehicle.

Klinger faces charges of arson, theft by unlawful taking, and receiving stolen property.

Klinger waived his case to court during a preliminary hearing Thursday before District Judge Colleen Mancuso of Brodheadsville. He is in prison awaiting trial for an incident on Sept. 30 with charges including fleeing police, receiving stolen property, recklessly endangering another person and traffic violations.
