W. Penn gets $160K grant to use on Arrow Road

West Penn Township Roadmaster Jeremy Frable successfully applied for a $160,000 grant that will be used for maintenance on Arrow Road.

Over the last eight years, Frable has brought in more than a $1 million of grant money, supervisors’ Chairman Anthony Prudenti said during this week’s board meeting.

In his report to the board, Frable said that the township road crew completed a number of projects in October. The crew maintained township equipment, installed pipes and culvert boxes on High Drive, repaired shoulders on Ben Salem and Valley roads, fixed a washout on Wertman’s Hollow Road, patched potholes throughout the township, and painted turn lanes on Route 309.

Frable thanked the West Penn Township Police Department for assisting the road crew when it was painting cross walks and arrows near Leiby’s Restaurant.

“Thank you, (Chief) Jim (Bonner) for sending an officer down there to help save our lives during the night we were down there,” Frable said.

After Frable’s report was accepted, Prudenti thanked him.

“I’ve been a supervisor for 8 years and during that 8 years, our road department through the help of Jeremy Frable has brought in over a million dollar in grants,” Prudenti said. “I’m happy to report that and I just want to publicly thank Jeremy.”

A resident also thanked the road department for the “prompt service” on Wertman Hollow Road. The road crew, he said, did a “terrific job.”

In an unrelated matter, supervisor Timothy Houser reminded residents to make sure their home’s smoke detectors are working and their chimneys are clean.

“We’re getting to that time of year when people are turning their heat on,” he said. “I don’t want the fire company going out if they don’t need to.”
