Election races in Weatherly area, northern Carbon County
Here is a look at races in the Weatherly area and northern end of Carbon County.
Banks Township
Democrat Charles J. Schalles edged out Richard Hornick Sr. for the 6-year term for Banks Township supervisor. The votes were 156 to 92.
Joseph Bodnar was unchallenged for the 6-year auditor position.
Beaver Meadows
Republicans William M Curilla Jr. and Barbara Brendon were the only two candidates for four open seats on Beaver Meadows borough council.
Lausanne Township
No one is on the ballot for the 6-year supervisor term or the 2- or 4-year term for auditor.
Lehigh Township
Republican Leonard Weston was the sole candidate for the 6-year term of supervisor.
Pawel Fiolek, a Republican, was unchallenged for the 2-year term of supervisor.
No one was on the ballot for the auditor positions.
Packer Township
Republican Terry L. Davis won the 6-year term for Packer Township supervisor, defeating Paul Bray by a 206-141 vote margin.
No candidates are on the ballot for the auditor positions.
Weatherly
Republican Paul J Hadzick is the sole candidate for the 4-year mayor position.
For Borough Council, Michael Bellizia, running on both tickets, was the top vote-getter for the two seats available. He had 377 votes. Joseph Cyburt also attained a position with 271 votes.
Democrat Joseph A. Thomas was edged out with 271 votes.
Weatherly Area School Board
Five seats were open for the 4-year term of school director in Weatherly.
William Knepper, listed on both ballots, was in the lead with 807, followed by April Walters, on both tickets with 747 votes and Republican Gerard Grega with 729 votes and Republican Ty Harris with 722 votes. Bonita Lee Barbush rounded out the unofficial tallies with 644 votes.
Democrat Christy Minor was the low vote-getter with 432 votes.
There are 217 write-in votes to be counted, which could change the outcome.
For the two-year seat, Thomas J. Connors Jr. defeated Barbush by a 658-475 vote margin.
All voted are unofficial until certified by the election office.
