N. Lehigh agrees to buy 2024 vehicles

Several new vehicles will come with a slightly higher price tag than originally anticipated, Northern Lehigh School Board directors learned on Monday.

On an 8-0 vote, the school board agreed to purchase one 2024 school district police vehicle, along with two 2024 district vehicles, with pricing estimated to be a $3,000 to $5,000 increase for each over the CO-STARS eligible quote.

The original CO-STARS quote for a 2023 Chevrolet Traverse police vehicle was $40,750, while the original quote for the two 2023 Chevrolet Traverse All-Wheel Drive district vehicles was $32,000 each.

However, board President Mathias Green said that the 2023 vehicles are not available, so the district is looking at getting 2024 models.

“For full transparency, the vehicles that we were looking at were all purchased off the lot Friday afternoon at the end of the day,” Superintendent Dr. Matthew J. Link said. “They do not yet have the 2024 vehicles in yet.”

Link said they are anticipating a price increase of anywhere from $3,000 to $5,000 for those same vehicles.

Afterward, the board agreed to authorize administration to purchase the 2024 vehicles when they arrive and they are available “so that we don’t continue to find ourself in the same situation that if we have to wait now until November that those are also sold off the lot.”

Director Robert Kern was absent.

In other financial matters, the board also approved the following:

• To enter into a two-year agreement with School Health for the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 school years at a cost not to exceed $11,944 to be funded by the Buildings and Grounds budget.

• To release the $5,000 donation to the Slatington Public Library that is budgeted in the 2023-2024.

• Approved the transportation contract at the IRS reimbursement rate with the parent of a foster student residing in Northern Lehigh School District and attending a school in the Bethlehem Area School District, in accordance with the Every Student Succeeds Act.

• Statewide Tax Recovery as delinquent per capita tax collector for the 2023 tax year.
