Palmerton recognizes church, borough

Palmerton Borough officials recognized an area church and the borough itself on milestone anniversaries Thursday.

Councilman Kris Hoffner read proclamations for St. John’s United Church of Christ, and the Borough of Palmerton.

St. John’s was recognized for its 225th anniversary, and for being “a cornerstone” of the community “with a belief system deep rooted in love for God.”

Borough council recognizes St. John’s “invaluable contributions of the organization to the community,” and noted it “continues to serve the community’s spiritual needs.”

The borough was recognized for its 125th anniversary - it was founded in 1898, with the ground breaking of Delaware Avenue, and was officially incorporated in 1912.

It was noted that “the entity has become the governmental authority which facilitates numerous services for its residents such as water, sewer, police enforcement, recreation, planned zoning”; and that the borough “has a long, rich history that has evolved to a bustling downtown, beautiful parks, and a thriving residential population.”
