State police at Fern Ridge
State police at the Fern Ridge barracks were summoned to a number of incidents recently. Their reports on them are as follows:
• Police were called to a corruption of minors incident at 2:07 p.m. Sept. 17 at a property on Lakeside Road in Chestnuthill Township. Police said they were advised a suspect believed he was talking to a 15-year-old male on grinder during which time the suspect requested to meet the boy at his residence for a sexual encounter.
• Police said an 81-year-old Reeders woman is the victim of a theft incident that they were called to at 3:07 p.m. Sept. 21 at a property on Church Road in Jackson Township. Police said she reported someone used her Amazon account to make two unauthorized purchases. One was for a $84 bottle of Paco Rabanne XS Night Cologne and the other was for a $48 Chesona touch pad.
• A 71-year-old Brodheadsville woman is the victim of a theft incident. Police were called at 6:51 p.m. Sept. 16 to a property on Route 715 in Chestnuthill Township where the victim related someone entered her garage a removed a small tool box with tools in it. Police said the toolbox is valued at $400 while the tools that were in it are worth $3,000.
• Daquan Graves, 30, and Zachary Brewster, 29, both of Ithaca, New York, were jailed after their arraignment on charges of possession of controlled substances with intent to deliver them after they were stopped in a 2021 Nissan Altima that police stopped for the driver having committed numerous traffic violations at 11:43 p.m. Sept. 11 on Interstate 380 northbound in Coolbaugh Township.
Police said after the stop they observed several indicator of criminal activity and sought consent to search the vehicle. After the duo denies the request, police used a K-9 that alerted them to illegal narcotics in the vehicle. When the arrestees denied a search a second time, police obtained a search warrant and proceeded to locate a two-gallon-size Ziplock bag containing methamphetamine in the rear trunk spare tire area of the car. The bag weighed about 1.75 pounds, police said.
Following their arraignment, Graves and Brewster were committed to the Monroe County Correctional Facility, Snydersville, in lieu of $40,000 bail.
• Police said they were asked to investigate a non-compliant Megan’s Law offender in Jackson Township between Sept. 4-14. They said they were told the offender failed to comply with his three-month verification updates. But through the investigation, police said it was learned the offender had passed away in August.
• Terry Pursell, 54, of Nazareth, is facing “firearm sale or transfer” charges after he was denied authorization to purchase a firearm. Police said he entered Dunkelberger’s Sports Outfitter, 1471 Route 209, Chestnuthill Township, in May and attempted to purchase a Henry H001M1 rifle, completing the firearms transaction record. Police said a store employee ran a background on Pursell through the Pennsylvania Instant Check System which indicated he was denied authorization to make the purchase.
• Police said a 57-year-old Jim Thorpe man is the victim of a harassment by communications case that they wee called to investigate at 7 p.m. Sept. 12.
Police said the man, who resides on Delaware Drive in Penn Forest Township, told them received a harassing letter by mail from an unknown actor.
• Police are investigating the theft of U.S. and Jamaican currency from a 46-year-old Albrightsville man who resides along Chippewa Trail in Penn Forest Township.
He called police at 10 a.m. Sept. 12 and reported $1,120 in U.S. currency, $1,100 in Jamaican currency ($7 value) and eight credit/debit cards were stolen from his wallet.
• Esmerling Espinal, 24, of Brooklyn, New York, is facing multiple charges, including possession of a controlled substance, after a traffic stop made by police at 3:45 p.m. Sept. 14 at 100 Commercial Boulevard, Tobyhanna Township. Police said he was stopped while driving a 2006 Honda Accord that displayed a registration plate that did not belong on the vehicle. Police said Espinal was found to possess a valid driver’s license and was in possession of suspected marijuana and registration plates from various states.
• An Effort woman is the victim of a theft by deception incident that was reported to police at 7:45 a.m. Sept. 13. The resident of North Rocky Mountain Drive, Chestnuthill Township, told police she discovered her SNAP card had been compromised at an unknown location with $520 being withdrawn from it, leaving a balance of $.01. Police advised the public top not use a debit card with a pin number entered, recommending the card be entered as credit so that a pin number is not disclosed to a third party billing system.
• Brigham Vonstetten, 46, of Albrightsville, was charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance after a traffic stop police made at 1:51 a.m. Aug. 25 at the intersection of Jonas Road and Jonas Court in Chestnuthill Township. Police said they tried to halt him for speeding and failing to maintain his lane of travel but he fled in a 2003 Ford F250.
He voluntarily stopped about a mile and half later and was taken into custody. He is also facing charges of fleeing or attempting to elude police.
