Cleanup, shredding event for Monroe Co. residents

There is a free paper shredding and clean-up event for Monroe County residents from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, the office of state Rep. Jack Rader, R-Monroe, announced.

The event includes the opportunity for residents to replace license plates that are hard to read. PennDOT is required by law to replace a plate free of charge if they are deemed illegible by law enforcement or a certified inspection mechanic.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office will be on hand to inspect license plates and sign the appropriate form. Those who plan to attend should bring their vehicle with the affected plate attached, along with their unexpired Pennsylvania driver’s license and current vehicle registration card.

Rader’s office said the event is rain or shine. It will in the parking area in front of the raceway ticket office at 1234 Long Pond Road. Residents are asked to remain in their vehicles while Rader’s staff unloads any paperwork or other items for disposal.

Shredding will be conducted on site by Purple Paper Eaters Document Destruction Services of Wilkes-Barre. There is a limit of four copy-paper-sized boxes per vehicle.

Additional items to be accepted include:

• Up to four old tires per vehicle (no rims), collected free of charge by The Waste Authority.

• Unwanted or expired prescription drugs collected by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

• Faded and worn flags collected by American Legion Post 413 Pocono Lake.

• Prescription eyeglasses, sunglasses and hearing aids collected by the Lions Club.

• Gently used children’s books collected by Clymer Library.
