Pleasant Valley School Board on Thursday unanimously approved a collective bargaining agreement between the district and the Pleasant Valley Education Support Professionals' Association.
The contract, which covers all the district's support staff, runs for three years, effective for the 2015-16 school year through and including the 2017-18 school year.Financial details were not immediately available Thursday night, but Superintendent Carole Geary said a press release would be distributed in the near future."They made some significant concessions concerning health care," Geary said. "With the raises, we tried to strike a balance between the concessions they made and their salary."Board president Russ Gould reported on a visit by board members to Pleasant Valley's elementary and intermediate schools. He specifically noted the increased use of interactive white boards by staff in both buildings."There are about 106 rooms in the district that have these white boards and 133 that do not," he said. "What is the plan for this year?"Geary said it is up to administration at the individual buildings and how much they budget for the boards."We try and cap it at $10,000 per year at each building for purchasing them," she said. "At the end of the year, if there is money unspent, this is one of the things we would approve that money be spent on."Pleasant Valley Intermediate School is getting four boards this year through the Keystones to Opportunity grant."From what I hear, the teachers love these white boards," Gould said. "All the teachers that have them are using them, and that's pretty impressive to me. I know there are a few who don't have one that would like one. If administrators feel the need for more boards, bring it to the board and we'll address that issue."
