Franklin Lions give $12,500

Eight organizations were awarded checks by the Franklin Township Lions Club on Thursday that totaled $12,500.

Additionally, a pair of Lions Club members were named as a Melvin Jones Fellow, on behalf of Lions Clubs International Foundation.Recipients were:• Franklin Township Fire Company $4,750• Trinity Food Bank in Lehighton $2,500• Lehighton Memorial Library $2,500• Northeast Pennsylvania Lions Eye Bank $1,000• Lions International Leader Dog Program $500• Carbon County Environmental Center $500• American Cancer Society $500• Family Promise of Carbon County $250The donations were given at a meeting of the club at Phifer's Ice Dam in the township.Also at the meeting, Hazel Goodhile and Joel Christman were named as a Melvin JonesFellow.The Melvin JonesFellowship is named for Melvin Jones, the founder of Lions Clubs International.It is largely due to the growth of the fellowship program that the foundation has been able to meet humanitarian needs in communities around the world.
