Pocono Mountain Regional police reported the arrest of a Monroe County man on various charges incident to child abuse.

Police said on March 1 at 2:20 p.m. officers responded to 1193 Campbell Way, Tobyhanna, for a report of an infant not breathing.The infant, a 3-month-old boy, was initially transported to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, but later transferred to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.Medical personnel determined the infant had suffered abusive head trauma indicating the child had bilateral retinal hemorrhages and old and new subdural hemorrhages in the brain.Pocono detectives went to LVH and interviewed the parents of the child. As a result of the investigation, on March 9 police arrested the father, Juan Ramel Vazquez, 26, on charges of aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child, both felonies, and simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, both misdemeanors.He was arraigned before a district judge and committed to the county prison in lieu of $250,000 bail.
