Mountain on fire

At least 30 acres burned late Monday afternoon in a brush fire on top of the Blue Mountain near the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Lehigh Gap. Fire broke out around 5 p.m. and could be seen for miles. Drivers pulled over on Route 248 near Bowmanstown to see the fire and to take photos of a helicopter dipping into the Lehigh River to bring water to battle the stubborn blaze. Fire companies from Lehigh, Carbon and Northampton counties were on scene to navigate the rocky terrain. Two planes were also brought in to assist.
