State Rep. Thomas McCall, D-Carbon, joined statewide legislators from his party in fighting for restored funding for the state's 1976-77 budget for hospitals run by the state.
McCall led the way to have a $5.5 million appropriation for state hospitals set aside after Gov. Milton Shapp had proposed only $1.6 million in state funds.McCall noted the Coaldale State General Hospital would have been "seriously affected" by the curtailment of funds. He and his colleagues argued the $1.6-million proposal was far and significantly lower than the $7.2 million appropriation that the 1975-76 state budget contained.
